In Montana!

Tags

We’ve arrived in Montana! The drive up from Bozeman was beautiful – the aspens have turned yellow and there’s a dusting of snow on the upper reaches of the mountains.

The temperatures are cool, in the 40s, but the weather is beautiful. There are flurries in places, and in others shafts of sunlight burst through the clouds. Up here at Bjerghuset it’s sunny, but across the valley the Porcupines are socked in in what looks like a snowstorm.

Weather Report

Early weather reports are predicting daytime temperatures in the mid 40s, but at night it will fall below freezing. The ceremony will be in a tent that’s rumored to have heaters, but be prepared for cool weather.

To keep an eye on the weather check this NOAA point forecast. Be aware that predicting weather in this kind of terrain is tricky, and conditions may change quickly.

We can’t wait to see all of you!

Well, here it is, reproduced with the fanciest of blogging technology….

First off, Friday’s event is a welcome dinner, not a rehearsal. The ranch is preparing a BBQ (veggies and meat) at The Point. Feel free to wander down anytime after 6:00 to join us.

Dress for Saturday events is “Montana formal”, which means that you do not need a suit or fancy attire, though you may dress up if you would like to. Otherwise, your best jeans and flannel will do fine! Also consider that some daytime events will take place outdoors, weather permitting, so we’d advise against high-heels. The weather in Big Sky has had highs in the 60s and 70s, but lows at night are already nearing freezing. Be sure to check on the weather forecast as you’re packing for the trip.

We’re planning a short (optional) hike on Saturday morning. The hike won’t be strenuous, but keep in mind that the ranch is at 6,500 feet and people who come in from the coast may need a little time to adjust. No one should feel obligated to come along, either – there will be plenty of time to hang out and celebrate later in the day. Since many of you will have just arrived, the ranch is offering to assemble packed lunches for Saturday if you’d like to join us, but there will be a charge for the lunches. If you would like one, you will need to let the ranch know by breakfast time on Saturday, but preferably when you check in.

Sunday brunch will be at Bjerghuset, Lina’s parents home above Big Sky. It’s about a 20 minute drive up from the 320 Ranch, and we encourage people to car pool as much as possible. If you’re planning to attend, please talk to other guests on Friday and Saturday to plan your ride. Finally, if you are spending the night at the 320 Ranch on Sunday, we will provide charcoal and grill-type foods for a cookout on the grills outside of the cabins.

If you have any questions about what’s going on please feel free to email us:

Love to you all,

Mark and Lina

It’s September already!

We can’t believe that the party is just over a month away. We’ve been very busy putting things together and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic time.

Lina’s parents recently visited Big Sky and although the days were still quite warm, the nights were starting to get cold. It’s hard to know what the weather will be like in early October, but be ready to pack both a warm jacket and sweater as well as shorts and warm-weather clothes.

Some people have asked about grocery stores. Once you’re at the ranch, the nearest groceries are in Big Sky, about 12 miles north of the ranch. There are also larger grocery stores close to the Bozeman airport. If there’s anything you’re sure to need, it’s a good idea to stop there on your way down to Big Sky. There is an Albertson’s just off the highway near the airport. This map shows where most of your options are: http://goo.gl/maps/3MrL9

If you’re not certain how to get down to the ranch, or you’d prefer not to rent a car, we’ve set up a spreadsheet for people interested in sharing rides: http://goo.gl/Rttpp

We’re looking forward to seeing you all in a month!

Lodging update for reserving cabins at 320 Ranch

Tags

Our lodging block at the 320 Ranch officially expired on Friday evening. To ensure that the remaining few cabins on the ranch remain available at the lowest possible rate, we have reserved them in our own names. If you want to reserve a cabin, please call Meghan at the 320 Ranch and just ask to take over one of the duplex cabins that the ranch is holding for us. And if you have any questions, please let us know!
